OmniComm's TrialMaster to be Used by Columbia University's InCHOIR as Part of $17 Million NIH Sponsored SCCOR Studies
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida – March 22, 2006 - /MarketWire/ - OmniComm Systems, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: OMCM), one of the fastest growing companies in the EDC marketplace, announced today that the company's TrialMaster EDC product has been selected by Columbia University's International Center for Health Outcomes and Innovative Research (InCHOIR) as part of a $17 Million dollar National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored Specialized Centers of Clinically Oriented Research (SCCOR) grant entitled Biology of Human Long-term Mechanical Circulatory Support. TrialMaster will be used in six SCCOR studies involving infection and coagulation surveillance, and cell therapy.
The infection research project includes a series of complementary laboratory, clinical, and epidemiological studies designed to understand the process by which staphylococcal infections develop in Left Ventricle Assist Device (LVAD) patients. In SCCOR's coagulation project, investigators are seeking to develop an optimal anticoagulant that can both reduce thrombosis at the time of device implantation and prevent late bleeding events. InCHOIR, co-directed by Dr. Annetine Gelijns and Dr. Alan Moskowitz, will be directing the Clinical Trials, Data Management and Statistical Analysis of the projects.
InCHOIR selected OmniComm and TrialMaster based on past experience with the company. “TrialMaster 's flexibility and OmniComm's customer service were key factors in the selection process” stated Annetine Gelijns, Co-Director of InCHOIR. “We look forward to working closely with OmniComm over the course of these projects.”
“We are pleased to be working with our partners at InCHOIR on these important studies”, stated Randy Smith, Chief Technology Officer at OmniComm. “InCHOIR will be taking advantage of some of TrialMaster 's features such as single-database/multi-study support, barcoding, and standard on-demand SAS data extracts. TrialMaster 's flexibility allows us to tailor the system to accommodate the various aspects of these projects.”
About InCHOIR
InChoir, the International Center for Health Outcomes and Innovative Research (www.inchoir.org), was established to address research needs on the clinical end of the translational research spectrum. In particular, the objectives of the Center are:
- To conduct clinical evaluative research (including randomized clinical trials) that integrates traditional endpoints (such as survival and physiological function) with the newer outcomes of quality of life, patient preferences, and cost-effectiveness. The Center has special expertise and focus in the assessment of procedure-based interventions and novel implantable devices;
- To conduct research into the process of health care delivery to detect and understand the causes of errors and “near miss” events in order to enhance patient safety;
- To examine the factors shaping the discovery, development, introduction, and use of clinical interventions (including drugs, devices, and procedures) and their policy implications.
The Center is strongly interdisciplinary in nature, with faculty in the areas of biostatistics, clinical trials, patient safety assurance, health economics, medical informatics, and science and technology policy analysis.
